This print has been created by hand. Using a technique called Intaglio where the design is ‘drawn’ with an etching needle into the printing plate, the ink rubbed into the lines on the plate, and then polished off. And finally it’s run through a press to transfer the design to paper.
Each one is printed by hand, by me, in my Yorkshire studio. Because all my prints are printed by hand this makes every single one of them a unique reproduction, and subtle variations will occur from print to print in the detail. For example different amounts of ink that is applied and will transfer, the slightly different pressure of the press each time. Which all mean that each print is unique, and to me is the whole beauty of the process and creation of handmade prints - no two prints are ever exactly the same! You get a piece of art that is individual and unique.
My Intaglio prints are created in small limited editions. Each print is hand numbered and signed by me in pencil.
Medium: Original Intaglio print
Paper size: approx 10cm x 7com (each piece of paper is hand cut). The mount card is a size that fits a standard off the shelf frame size
Ink: Black etching ink
Paper: A lovely heavyweight white, acid-free paper
Edition size: Limited edition of only 25 (a very small edition, so very exclusive)
Each handmade print is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist (me!).
To be really clear, you are purchasing the print ONLY. No frames or additonal mounts included - framed and mounted prints shown in my images are for illustration purposes only. You can purchase frames (and mounts) for this size of print very easily and affordably. If you want any guidance or suggestions simply email me.
Packaging: All my prints come unframed, with a protective card backing, and wrapped in a clear protective compostable & biodegradable alternative to cellophane. No plastic here! Then packed inside a card backed envelope. Size A3 and above will come tissue wrapped and rolled in a carboard tube.
Postage: Prints are sent on a tracked service within the UK.
Planet: I want my print making to have the least impact on the plant as possible. So I use professional UK made vegetable oil based eco-friendly printmaking inks (and no solvents are used in the studio). All prints are sent to you in plastic-free packaging too.
